How I can maintain health?

I am an IT professional and want to maintain good health. Kindly give me some tips.

Health has two vital components – Mental health and Physical health. While we are quite concerned about physical health, we often to tend to ignore the vital fact that it is the mental health that governs physical health. So, as an IT professional you should be equally conscious of your mental health along with the physical health.

Good health should NOT be a new year resolution. Remember, your health is your first priority and only if you have a good health that you will be able to enjoy the other flavours of life. Good health includes laughing, exercising, eating right, and de-stressing yourself. If you wait until you “have the time,” you’ll never have the time and you will never be able to make a start. Some tips that you can consider in your work-life for a good health:

1.You should have proper lighting and sitting facility at your workstation. You working space should be comfortable and pollution-free (noise). A peaceful and happy environment ensures productivity of the mind.
2. Avoid long working hours at a stretch. Make time for small breaks - get up, drink some water, stretch a bit, and walk around. You can avoid eye problems, heart-related issues, and posture defects by following this simple tip.
3. A good sleep is very important to avoid burnout and you can meditate before going to sleep. Put all your problems aside and then try to sleep.
4. There are times when we feel thirsty but don’t get up from our seat to have that glass of water. So, keep a water bottle on your table. Even though the tea/coffee in the office is for free, try and switch to water every time you go to the vending machine to have that mug of coffee. It is a healthier habit!
5. Research has revealed that job stress is a common problem that affects productivity of employees. You need to beat that job stress and be happy. Take a short walk of about 30 minutes daily as it helps eliminates job stress. Spend some time with friends/family that you enjoy with. Taking an annual break from work. This does not put you behind your colleagues despite popular opinion. It helps by letting your mind rest and thus helps in preserving your physical health and sanity. So, use your paid leaves to give your mind and body a chance to rejuvenate itself.

You may want to get some basic blood tests done annually just to confirm that you are healthy. As they say a stitch in time saves nine. Happy fixing!
