My team is not motivated to perform to best of potential

I find it difficult to keep my team motivated all the time. They lose interest in work. How can I generate interest in my team?

Dear NayanT,
Team motivation impacts team performance. As a manager, you need to stay connected with your team. Depending on the size of the team, it can be either a simple task or a rather complicated one. Different individuals have different needs and different motivation quotients. Some people don’t need push from the manager while others need hand-holding and monitoring at regular intervals. Communication is the key and you need to deploy strategies to interact with your team.

Appreciate the milestones. Celebrate the journey – birthdays, anniversaries, and family day. Get feedback from your team through face to face sessions. Use social media to connect and communicate – maybe newsletters, chat, and emails. Make Mondays exciting and work place something to look forward to! When times are tough hold the fort together and lead from the front. Nothing is more comforting for the team than having the manager on the deck when the ship is facing tough weather. Boredom normally sets in doing the same kind of work again and again. Hence – rotate job roles and build skills for the team.

A motivated manager can ONLY keep his/her team motivated. So – stay motivated and keep innovating to keep the spirits of your team high!
